Mackay Whitsunday District Police encourage all residents who may be leaving their homes, businesses, or vehicles unattended over the Easter period to observe the following steps to discourage opportunistic theft.
Mackay Whitsundays District Police are encouraging all residents who may be travelling over the Easter holiday period to take precaution and stay safe.
Theft is on the rise our region – up by 30 incidents in the last recorded month.
Businesses are being asked to check their alarms and CCTV are all in working order and monitored, and that access points are secured.
It’s also important to remove valuables- keeping cash off premises is a good way to deter would-be thieves.
Residents should also make sure their CCTV or alarms are up to date, and make sure their wheelie bins are away from windows.
You can also install automatic light times when you leave, as well as making your home look ‘lived in’ by putting a radio or lights on timers.
All residents should make sure their vehicles are locked and the keys are kept away from view in your home, and valuables should not be left in the car.
